IMPORTANT NOTICE

THE NAME JACK RUSSELL WAS CHANGED TO PARSON RUSSELL BY THE AKC IN 2003. THIS WAS DONE TO COINCIDE WITH THE KENNEL CLUB OF ENGLAND WHICH HAD ALREADY DONE SO IN 1990. BOTH CLUBS USE SIMILAR BREED STANDARDS.

THE KENNEL CLUB IN ENGLAND CHANGED THE NAME TO DIFFERENTIATE IT FROM ALL OF THE VARYING TYPES OF TERRIERS CLASSIFIED AS JACK RUSSELL TERRIERS. THEY DID SO TO PROTECT THE TYPE OF TERRIER WHICH THE PARSON JOHN RUSSELL HAD A FONDNESS FOR.

THE JACK RUSSELL AND PARSON RUSSELL ARE COUSINS. THE GREATEST DIFFERENCE IS SIZE. THE PARSON IS 12-15 INCHES AT THE WITHERS, WHILE THE JACK IS 10-14. THE PARSON RUSSELL WAS BRED TO HUNT FOX AND NOT GROUND HOGS OR RATS. THE JACK RUSSELL IS NOT RECOGNIZED BY THE AKC OR THE KC OF ENGLAND.

EVERY ELEMENT OF THE BREED STANDARD OF THE PARSON IS IN RELATION TO HIS FUNCTION AS A TERRIER THAT WOULD BOLT THE FOX. FORM MUST FOLLOW FUNCTION. AT SONIC WE REMAIN FAITHFUL TO THE HERITAGE OF THE BREED AND ITS FOUNDER THE PARSON JOHN RUSSELL.

    Our goal at Sonic is to preserve and protect the PARSON Russell Terrier by learning and sharing our knowledge with others.

    We strive to breed a balanced PARSON Russell Terrier from proven English and North American bloodlines. Structurally and mentally sound with a fluid effortless movement and excellent working ability.

    Each year we carefully plan a few select breedings with concern for maintaining the unique heritage, health and abilities of the PARSON Russell Terrier.

    Puppies whelped at Sonic are raised in the home and are given proper socialization and training. Temperament testing is done to help you in your selection. Our puppies leave home, happy, healthy and confident.

    Our PARSON Russell terriers can be seen on our farm in their natural setting, working playing or just goofing off. Given the sound genetic and environmental background we believe our terriers will make versatile loyal companions, at home, in the field or in the show ring.
